Infinite soap bar

2010

Used soap bars get dry and then cracks giving you two options, throw away the remains, or make a mini-soap-ball that will keep cracking if you don´t keep the pressure and humidity. A simple shape change from the manufacturers, a dent in all bars, will allow new ones to be filled with the remains of used ones, providing a helpful solution ad infinitum.

And five years later in a book:

Carving a hole in a bar of soap so that it escapes the fate of becoming leftover soap that you throw away could be a quip about our rampant consumer culture. But it also shows that the design of bars of soap suffers from an inherent defect.[1]
